War Is Peace Freedom Is Slavery Ignorance Is Strength 1984 was written by George Orwell in the year 1948, and is his idea of what the future might be like, 36 years later, in 1984. 1984 is a story about a man named Winston Smith. He is a man who is living in what was once England, but is now a scary place controlled by Big Brother. Big Brother is always watching.
