"Too much self-sufficiency was sort of mean to the people who loved you, Kit thought. You robbed them of how good it feels to give, of their sense of value."
After an almost two-year break, I returned to the world of Taylor Jenkins Reid. The Reidverse is my favorite sanctuary from reality. Taylor's writing never fails me. She compels me to empathize, to view a single story from myriad perspectives. She reveals the stark truths of life, even for those who appear to have it all. She makes my heart ache for the people, that can simply be described as ink on paper.
The most bittersweet moment in her books comes with the final pages, when I am reminded that none of it was real. These characters will exist only in the hearts of readers fortunate enough to encounter them within the pages.
The void left by "Malibu Rising" is a familiar one, echoing the absences left by "The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo" and "Daisy Jones & The Six." Yet, I wouldn't undo it for anything. I want the true love shown by Junie, Nina, Jay, Hud, and Kit to linger in my memory forever.
