“Ali and Nino” invites readers to embark on three different literary worlds in September

In September, readers of the “Ali and Nino” book club will discover three completely different books, each offering its own theme, atmosphere and literary world. This new month, we will travel through history and art, find ourselves in a magical universe, and talk about the power of books and their influence on people’s lives.

In the Azerbaijani-language book club, we will read Tracy Chevalier’s novel “Girl with a Pearl Earring”. The story takes readers to the Netherlands in the 17th century and tells the story of the famous artist Johannes Vermeer and a young girl who works in his household. Against the backdrop of the atmosphere of the Dutch Golden Age, a story unfolds about beauty, art, social differences and human relationships. The novel allows us not only to see the story behind the creation of one of the world’s most famous paintings, but also to experience the spirit of the era in which it was created.

The book of the children’s book club will be “Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban” by J. K. Rowling — the third part of the beloved Harry Potter story. Harry, Ron and Hermione return to Hogwarts, but the new school year turns out to be far from peaceful. A dangerous prisoner, Sirius Black, escapes from Azkaban, Dementors appear at the school, and events from the past begin to intertwine with the present in unexpected ways. This part of the story becomes more mysterious and intense, exploring themes of friendship, trust, fear, betrayal and the past that continues to influence the present.

In the English-language book club, we will read Sosuke Natsukawa’s novel “The Cat Who Saved the Library”. This story will especially appeal to those who cannot imagine their lives without books and libraries. A mysterious cat, books and an unusual adventure form the basis of a story that makes us think about why we read and what place books occupy in our lives. Behind the engaging plot lie themes of love for literature, the power of knowledge, friendship and the ability of books to change a person.

Thus, in September, the “Ali and Nino” book club will take us through three completely different stories — from art and history to magic, and from magic to the true magic of books.

We do not simply read books — we discuss them together: we analyse characters and events, look for the authors’ messages, share our emotions and try to see familiar stories from completely different perspectives.

Choose your September book, read with us and come to our next meeting to share your thoughts!

Perhaps one of these three stories will become your favourite book of September. 🤍📚
