What We're Reading at Əli və Nino Book Club in June
Sunny June days, crisp pages and meaningful conversations — our “Əli və Nino” book club opens doors to four different worlds in four languages this month. We dive into both local literature and global voices. Here's what we're reading in June:
Azerbaijani Book Club:
📖 Murshud Mehdi – The Woman in the Letter
🗓 Meeting: June 22, at 13:00
In the second half of June, our readers will discover one of the most interesting voices in contemporary Azerbaijani literature — Murshud Mehdi. The Woman in the Letter tells the story of a woman caught between past and present, silence and self-expression.
❗️Special note: This month, author Murshud Mehdi will join us in person to answer your questions. The meeting will be held in a cozy tea-time conversation format.
Russian Book Club:
📖 Parinoush Saniee – Moya dolya (The Book of Fate)
🗓 Meeting: June 29, at 13:00
This powerful novel by Iranian writer Parinoush Saniee takes us deep into the struggles of a woman in Iranian society. We’ll discuss her emotional journey through silence, tradition, and ultimately — to finding her voice.
English Book Club:
📖 R.F. Kuang – Yellowface
🗓 Meeting: June 15, at 12:30
A bestseller that exposes the dark side of the publishing world — Yellowface is a bold satire that tackles race, authorship, and literary justice. We'll explore this provocative novel together with our English-speaking readers.
