While exploring the house her family has just moved into, Coraline finds a door that leads to nowhere. Or rather, a door that led to nowhere until it was opened with the right key. Now behind it is a passage to another world, very similar to Coraline's own: the same house, the same strange neighbors, and even her mom and dad!
